For my birthday, Mom let me adopt a kitten from a shelter. I chose a gray, black and beige tabby who looked to be about two months old and was partially blind from an infection that supposedly had been taken care of. Her name was Amy, but I changed the spelling to Amie for my own personal reasons. She's a very snuggly kitty, very loving and adores being petted and will purr at just about any touch. I fell in love with her at first sight at the shelter and just had to take her home.

Unfortunately...

Just last night she began walking funny, unbalanced like she was injured or not feeling well. She'd been fairly lethargic up to that point anyway, and that wound up being the last thing I needed to see before deciding to take her to the vet.

The prognosis wasn't good. It might be something as simple as an ear infection from mites that could easily clear up and she'll be fine, but there's a chance that she may have something worse than that, something that would take a lot of time and money to try and cure her of if she can even be cured at all. She's not two months, she's closer to four or five, and something has severely stunted her growth. She's got cataracts on top of that, and may still have fleas, and has had a re-occurance of worms. We're on the path to treating the minor things, but the possibility of losing her is still there.

I refuse to take her back to the shelter, knowing they'd just put her to sleep, and if she is going to die I'd rather have her be with people who love her in her last moments.

Please keep little Amie in your thoughts.
