Some how, I'm not surprised. A part of me thinks I should be, that I changed enough of my eating habits to prevent it, or reverse it or something ridiculously hopeful like that, but ahaha, honestly Jeni, don't be a dumbass...

For several years now, since a rather odd point in my life in JobCorps (Christmas break, at a relative stranger's house because I had no where else to go) I've been having a problem with frequent, inexplicable stomach problems, resulting in the most minor of irritation to the very worst. And trust me, there is a reason I'm not going in to detail.

Since then it really does seem like my health has gone down hill, and it seemed like for the few times I did deal with doctors, either no one else could figure out why, or the doctor was just an ass and shoving "You need to loose weight" down my throat (thank you Dr. Griffith, you jerk off :| ). There was never really a solution, and while it was slightly less of a problem in Portland, it came back up again in force after moving to Eugene.

Stomach problems, feeling ill right after eating a perfectly normal meal, over heating, vision deteriorating quicker than usual, fatigue, listlessness, headaches...

All of it was pointing to something...

Today at the clinic I came in to have my ear checked out. It's fine. A little clogged from my sinuses which a simple case of saline spray and some decongestants will help clear up.

But we got in to my eat habits. Family history. Past health problems...

They tested my glucose.

I'd had two biscuits this morning on the way to the bus at 8 am.

At 10ish, my glucose was over 200.

My overall 120 day glucose was 6.8. Anything below a 6 is acceptable.

... son of a bitch. -_-;

So much for thinking I'd dodged the diabetes bullet.

... I wonder if it's okay for me to still think that "Diabetus!" joke is still funny.

Sigh.

Oh suck! If you need any help with recipes or anything, Sandi and I have a lot of experience dealing with this. It's part of the job.

I probably well, though I don't know how easy or difficult it's going to be yet. Going to school affects my diet differently because I'm at the campus more than I'm home.

Going to school can be a help or a burden. It forces you to walk around a lot more, so it's like built in extra exercise, but cafeteria food will kill you.

So you have everything going for you that Sandi's client (who is diabetic) doesn't. She can't get him to go for a walk to save her life. So bonus!

*headdesk* I live my life like a Monty Python song.

Mm, the semester's calming down, although I have a lot of projects, so if you want me to take care of stuff at PW, I don't mind.

Medication will be able to keep it under control. ^_^

And hey, look at it this way, at least you're not alone on the Diabetes wagon*?

Now I just need to find my Diabetus cat macro.

*I've been a type one diabetic since age five.

I am sorry to hear this... I mean, it's never fun to find out you have some sort of illness/disease. But it's manageable and you'll feel better in the end. Also, they make some great diabetic cook books out there. I know you spend a lot of time on campus but there is a lot of help out there for food-decision making too (I know some places offer diabetic friendly choices, too.) You'll do just fine, I am sure of it. If there's ever anything I can help with, don't hesitate to ask!

Indeed, Mike did fine after starting his medication. And I'm sorry it's another thing for you to worry about, but I am glad they caught it for you, and you can hopefully start feeling better soon. :)

The good news is there are tons of recipes and advice to help you manage this since it's such a common condition. And depending on the type, there's a chance that by continuing your weight loss and improving eating habits you could even reverse it altogether!

So it'll be cool, you have all sorts of tools at your disposal, and best of all, you have us ^^
