"Remember when you were a little kid and you would look up at the clouds in the sky as the sunlight bounced off them? And, something that simple would make you feel a part of everything and all alone at the same time. And that feeling’s not something you can ever put into words. So you spend your whole life chasing it. Making music, taking pictures, painting, whatever, in the hope that other people will understand that sense or feeling. As creative entities, we look for signs of life outside ourselves, for a connection to alleviate the sense of solitude, that’s why we all do what we do, whether we know it of ourselves or not." - 2D of Gorillaz, We Are The Dury interview tape.

When we were kids the simplest thing could bring us joy. As we grew up, though, it took a lot more to make us happy. Our joy became high matinence, and we walk through life wondering if we'd ever feel that level of happiness again.

Though I'm reelnig now from not having Joe here anymore and I'm realizing just how damn lonely this place is when I have so few friends in the city, I experinced something yesterday that still manages to give me a little smile even now.

While waiting for the bus that would take us to the airport yesterday, I started spitting peices of ice in to the shallow creek near the road from where we sat. A few seconds later Joe joined me and we started giggling, laughing, and chiding eachother to make it in to the few pools of stagnent water that were surrounded by sludge and rocks. We made a game of it, and though we kept talking about 'points' we never kept score.

At one point he turned to me and said "This is more fun than we should be allowed to have," and my response as "Especially at our age."

And I grinned. A big, happy grin. He was leaving, but for that moment I felt like a kid agian, and 2D's suprising but truthful words came back to me...
